A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS AMONG THE WELDED Al-6061 PLATES JOINED BY FSW, MIG AND TIG WELDING METHODS

The present work deals with assessment of tensile strength, hardness, fracture behavior and microstructural changes in welded Al-6061 plates. MIG welding has been done filler rod whereas no metal applied during TIG for comparing the results FSW, a filler-less solid-state welding. ultimate strength (UTS) MIGW sample found 75% 111% higher than that FSW TIGW samples respectively. Also, elongation shown by joint is nearly 50% other two welds. properties non-filler welds, i.e., have similar. fractography established ductile all three joints. primary phase (bright Al-grains) base zone (BM) thin solid boundary changed into thick dendritic shapes (WZ). coarse secondary BM converted fine particle WZ under influence rapid cooling. reported harder HAZ plates plate due to accumulation equiaxed phase.
